The next scheduled election for the Jonesboro City Council is March 21, 2023. Qualifying to run for office shall be held at the Jonesboro City Center, located at 1859 City Center Way Jonesboro, Georgia beginning on Monday, January 23, 2023, through Wednesday, January 25, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Municipal elections for Mayor and City Council are held and conducted in accordance with Title 2 of the O.C.G.A., the Georgia Election Code.
Candidates for Mayor and City Council run at-large and are voted on by the registered voters of the entire city, not by districts or posts, or any geographic designation.
Municipal Elections are held in accordance with the Georgia Election Code, and elected officials take their Oath of Office at the first meeting immediately following their election. Officials serve four year terms and/or until their successors are elected.
The City of Jonesboro Municipal Elections are nonpartisan and are held without primaries.
Sec. 5.11. - Election of the City Council and Mayor
(a) There shall be a municipal general election on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in odd-numbered years.
(b) There shall be elected three (3) councilmembers in the 1997 election and at every other election thereafter. The mayor's seat and the remaining city council seats shall be filled at the election alternating with the first election so that a continuing body is created as provided for in the initial election held under this charter.
Sec. 5.14. - Special Elections; Vacancies.
In the event that the office of mayor or councilmember shall become vacant for any cause whatsoever, the city council or those remaining shall order a special election to fill the balance of the unexpired term of such official; provided, however, if such vacancy occurs within six (6) months of the expiration of the term of that office, the city council or those remaining may appoint a successor for the remainder of the term or may allow the office to remain vacant pending the next regular city election. In all other respects, the special election shall be held and conducted in accordance with the Georgia Municipal Election Code, O.C.G.A. § 21-3-1 et seq., as now or hereafter amended.

Qualifying for the election shall be held at the Jonesboro City Center, 1859 City Center Way, Jonesboro, Georgia beginning on Monday, January 23rd through Wednesday, January 25th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m
