COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

OCTOBER 13, 2008

 

 

The City of Jonesboro Mayor and Council held the monthly Council meeting on Monday, October 13, 2008.  The meeting was held at 7:00 p.m. at the Jonesboro Police Station, 170 South Main Street Jonesboro, Georgia.

 

Council Present:       Luther Maddox, Mayor

                                    Clarence Mann, Councilmember

                                    Roger Grider, Councilmember

                                    Wallace Norrington, Councilmember

                                    Billy Powell, Councilmember

                                    Rick Yonce, Councilmember

                                    Bobby Wiggins, Councilmember

 

Staff Present:            Chief Wayne Rowland, Joe Nettleton, and Charles Carpenter and

                                    Janice Truhan

 

Mayor Maddox called the meeting to order.  Prayer was given by Councilmember Norrington, and the Pledge of Allegiance followed.

 

Minutes of the September 8th Regular meeting and the September 23rd Called meeting were considered.  Minutes were approved with the notation made by Councilmember Mann that the 2nd was missing for the vote on Item (G) of the September 08th Regular Meeting minutes.  [Motion:  Grider, 2nd: Powell, Vote: Unanimous]

 

Public Comments were made by Mr. Cantrell regarding paving.

 

A presentation was made by Edie Yongue from ÒKeep Clayton County BeautifulÓ.

 

Mayor Maddox requested a motion to enter Executive Session. Approved. [Motion: Mann, 2nd: Grider, Vote:  Unanimous].

 

Mayor Maddox called for a motion to resume the Regular meeting. Approved. [Motion: Grider, 2nd: Norrington, Vote:  Unanimous].

 

The Council considered the following items A – D on the Agenda:

 

A.   Considered approval of amended Resolution No. 2008-003, Housing Authority of the City of

       Jonesboro. Approved Ms. Pat Sebo and Mr. Mark Harris to the Housing Authority     

       Board. Approved. [Motion: Norrington, 2nd: Wiggins, Vote:  Yea – Mann, Norrington,

       Wiggins; Nay - Grider, Powell, Yonce. Tie breaker vote from  Mayor Maddox cast as  

       ÒyeaÓ].

 

B.   Considered approval of membership in Simply Southern Tourism Association at $150.00.

       Approved. [Motion: Grider, 2nd: Mann, Vote:  Unanimous].

 

 

C.   Consider Jonesboro Fire Department Memorial Plaque for the Jonesboro Firehouse Museum

       and Community room. Approved to accept bid. [Motion: Grider, 2nd: Norrington, Vote: 

       Unanimous].

 

D.    Considered Jonesboro Firehouse Museum and Community Center commercial

        refrigerator. Approved. [Motion: Grider, 2nd: Norrington, Vote: yea – Grider, Powell, 

        Mann, Norrington, Yonce. Nay - Wiggins].

 

The Council considered Other Business:

 

          Mayor Maddox called for other business.

 

         Councilmember Wiggins brought up that the Grove has tall grass which is uncut.

         Mayor Maddox stated that the Silt Fence needs to be removed also.

 

          Councilmember Wiggins also asked about the CDBG Grant for Sidewalks.  Mayor

          Maddox stated that there has been a request for Extension sent to the County.

 

          The Mayor stated that Bunko will be played at the Jonesboro Firehouse Museum and

          Community Room tomorrow at 6:00 and all are invited to join in.

 

         The Mayor stated that will be a covered dish supper held at the Jonesboro Firehouse

         Museum Thursday, October 16th, 2008 at 6:00 p.m.

 

         The monthly Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held October 20th, 2008 at 170 South

         Main Street Jonesboro at 6:30 p.m. 

 

          Senator Saxby Chambliss will be at ButchÕs restaurant for Breakfast on Friday October 17th, 2008 at 6:45 a.m.        

           

         Considered motion to adjourn.  Approved.  [Motion: Grider, 2nd: Norrington, Vote:
