CITY OF JONESBORO

CALLED COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

DECEMBER 11th, 2008

 

 

The City of Jonesboro Mayor and Council held a Called Council meeting on Thursday, December, 11th, 2008.  The meeting was held at 10:00 a.m. at the Jonesboro Police Station, 170 South Main Street Jonesboro, Georgia.

 

Council Present:       Luther Maddox, Mayor

                                    Clarence Mann, Councilmember

                                    Roger Grider, Councilmember

                                    Wallace Norrington, Councilmember

                                    Billy Powell, Councilmember

                                    Rick Yonce, Councilmember

                                    Bobby Wiggins Councilmember

 

Staff Present:            Janice Truhan, Chief Wayne Rowland, Joe Nettleton, Brad Johnson, Tim

Jessup and Sandra Meyers.

 

Mayor Maddox called the meeting to order. 

 

Presentation was made by Midsouth Planning Corp – Karen Larkin, of proposed Health and Wellness insurance packages available to the City.  Discussion ensued regarding insurance plan detail and a question and answer arena followed. The Council, as suggested by Mayor Maddox, Considered a motion.  Motion made to accept Mid South Planning as the broker of health and wellness plans.  Approved.  [Motion: Wiggins, 2nd: Powell, vote:  Unanimous]. 

 

The Council considered approval of the 2009 budget, as presented with required changes.  Approved.  [Motion:  Grider, 2nd:  Powell, Vote:  Unanimous].

 

A statement was made by Councilmember Bobby Wiggins regarding a training he had attended in regarding the limiting of property tax.  He had learned that we could be ÔfrozenÕ at  the current millage rate due to a change by the Legislature in the way that taxes are accessed (California or Florida style).

 

Mayor Maddox further advised that the City was awarded a $60,000. Grant to conform

City sidewalks to be compliant for ADA accessibility.  Also, the CDBG grant can be applied for

through Clayton County with no matching funds required from the City.

 

The Mayor requested a motion to adjourn.  Approved.  [Motion: Grider,  2nd: Mann,

Vote:  Unanimous].
