CITY OF JONESBORO
COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
JULY 14, 2008
The City of Jonesboro Mayor and Council held the monthly Council meeting on Monday, July 11th, 2008. The meeting was held at 7:00 p.m. at the Jonesboro Police Station, 170 South Main Street Jonesboro, Georgia.
Council Present: Luther Maddox, Mayor
Clarence Mann, Councilmember
Roger Grider, Councilmember
Wallace Norrington, Councilmember
Billy Powell, Councilmember
Rick Yonce, Councilmember
Bobby Wiggins, Councilmember
Staff Present: Janice Truhan, Joe Nettleton, Brad Johnson and Charles Carpenter.
Mayor Maddox called the meeting to order. Prayer was given by Councilmember Rick Yonce. Pledge of Allegiance followed.
Minutes of the June 09, 2008 regular meeting were considered. Minutes were approved. [Motion: Grider, 2nd: Norrington, Vote: Unanimous].
Mayor Maddox called for meeting public comments. Public comments were made by Beverly Lester, Anne Wise, and Nancy Reeves.
Presentation of a plaque was made by Historical Jonesboro President Barbara Emert to the Mayor and Council for their Anniversary partnership.
The 2nd, in a series of two (2) Public Hearings were held regarding the ordinance for Jonesboro Technology fees. Hearing. Motion was made to adopt the Ordinance or Jonesboro Technology Fees. Approved. [Motion: Grider, 2nd: Norrington, Vote: Unanimous].
The Council considered the following items A – D on the Agenda:
Under Old Business:
A. Considered repealing Resolution 2008-002 Municipal Court Fees. Approved.
[Motion: Wiggins, 2nd: Grider, Vote: Unanimous].
Under New Business:
B. Considered Home Based Business M & E Mobile Car Washing, Mr. Michael Edge.
Mayor Maddox called for Mr. Edge to come forward to address the Council. Mr. Edge
not present. Motion was made to strike. Approved. [Motion: Grider, 2nd:
Powell, Vote:
Unanimous].
C. Considered Ordinance to cover low speed motorized vehicles (L.S.M.V.) on select City
streets with speed
limits of 35 M.P.H. or less.
Approved. [Motion: Grider, 2nd:
Norrington, Vote: yea – Grider, Powell, Mann, Norrington, Yonce. Nay: Wiggins]
D. Considered R.F.P.Ős for Cemetery Mapping Project. Bulls Eye Mapping Approved as
awarded vendor. [Motion: Grider, 2nd: Powell, Vote: Unanimous].
The Council considered Other Business:
Mayor Maddox called for other business. He stated that Ingles Jonesboro was closing
this week and that contact had been made to the District Manager in an effort to attempt to
alter Ingles course of action. There was no chance of recovery.
The Mayor stated that will be a covered dish supper held at the Jonesboro
FirehouseMuseum Thursday July 17th, 2008 at 6:00 p.m., and the monthly Neighborhood
Watch meeting will be held July 21, 2008 at 170 South Main Street Jonesboro at 6:30 p.m.
Major Brad Johnson and Public Works Director Joe Nettleton are the guest speakers.
The Mayor encouraged all to go out and vote tomorrow.
