PUBLIC HEARING - MILLAGE MINUTES

September 26, 2007

 

 

 

 

 

The City of Jonesboro held the first in a series of three Public Hearings regarding the annual Millage rate for 2007at 124 North Avenue.  Mayor Joy Day declared the meeting open at 9:00 a.m.

 

The following Councilmember’s were present:

                                                Rick Yonce

                                                Roger Grider  

                                                Bobby Wiggins

 

Staff Present:     Sandra Meyers – Finance Officer, and Janice Truhan – City Clerk

 

No attendees from the Public were present.

 

Sandra Meyers stated that there was zero millage set in the 2007 budget in regard to estimated revenues. Bobby Wiggins, Councilmember asked questions regarding Millage.  Mr. Wiggins asked if the 1 Mil approved in 2007 is for 2007.  Sandra stated no, that is for 2006.  These series of Public Hearings are to set the 2007 Millage rate. The rate is always in arrears. Mr. Wiggins asked if 1% will help.  Sandra stated ‘a bit’.  Mr. Wiggins asked if it will cover the 2007 budget needs?  Sandra stated that the Police Department needs vests and cars; we have annexation, sanitation and expenses related to that; legal fees, etc.  Mayor Day stated that we will need an additional $250,000. Clarence Mann is providing a report on estimated costs of public sanitation.  Joe Nettleton will need another staff person to operate the truck. Joe also needs a new chipper.  Rick Yonce stated that crew is needed to pick up limbs when there are storms. Mayor Day stated that if limbs are on the property, Robertson will pick up if they are dragged out to the street.

 

Mayor Day asked if there were any questions or concerns.  None. 

 

Mayor Day thanked the Councilmember’s for coming.
