Regular Meeting
March 11, 2002

     The regular meeting of Mayor and Council was held March 11, 2002 with Mayor Day and all members present as follows:  T. E. Adair, Luther Maddox, Yvette McDonald, Wallace Norrington, Clifford Sewell and Rick Yonce. 

     The meeting was opened with a prayer by Councilman Sewell, and Mayor Day led in the Pledge to the Flag.  

     The minutes of the February regular meeting were read and stand unanimously approved. 

     On a motion by Sewell, seconded by McDonald, the request of Don Rosinsky to place and emissions testing building at 8564 Tara Blvd. was denied.  The motion carried unanimously.  

     Maddox moved, seconded by Yonce, that Mark Brewer be allowed an office at his home at 125 Pharr Avenue for his fence company.   The motion carried unanimously.  

     It was agreed for “Jonesboro Days” to be held May 18th from 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. and have a patriotic theme.  May 4th was the date set for a citywide yard sale. The fee would be waived but citizens are requested to register at City Hall. 

     Chief Wiggins gave the Fire Department report, and Police Chief Harris reported that the Police Department will sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt at Lee Street Football Field on March 30th from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.   

     On a motion by Sewell, seconded by Norrington, Mayor Day was authorized to sign the LARP (Local Assistant Road Program) contracts on behalf of the City.  The motion carried unanimously. 

     Mr. Z. A. Butt, owner of John’s Discount at 281 North Main Street, was present asking the Council to consider allowing him to sell beer and wine at that location.  Mayor Day advised him that it would be in violation of the city Beer and Wine Ordinance concerning distance from a church, but it would be discussed at a Called Meeting on March 25th.  

     Mr. Gordon Allen addressed Council concerning having a vehicle storage lot at 217 North Main Street.  He was also advised that this would be discussed at the Called Meeting on March 25th.  

       There being no further business, Sewell moved, seconded by Norrington that the meeting be adjourned.  The motion carried unanimously.
