Regular Meeting
June 12, 2000

      The regular meeting of Mayor and council was held June 12, 2000 with Mayor Day and the following members present:  T. E. Adair, Luther Maddox, Yvette McDonald, Wallace Norrington and Clifford Sewell.

     On a motion by Norrington, seconded by Adair, the May minutes were unanimously approved with a noted correction.  The minutes are to reflect that all the Baptist Church’s modular units be removed from Church Street with permission to place one additional unit on Mill Street.

      Maddox moved, seconded by Sewell that the Park Ordinance be adopted with the addition of a section concerning pet owners cleaning up any litter from their animals.  The motion carried unanimously.

     On a motion by Sewell, seconded by McDonald, it was unanimous to postpone any action on the Taxi-Cab Ordinance for further study and consideration and be taken up at a Called Meeting or the next regular meeting.

      Adair moved, seconded by Norrington, that the Board of Education be allowed to place 10 temporary modular units at Arnold School for 24 months with the stipulation that a 4 foot chain link fence be erected between the units and Stockbridge Road.  The motion carried unanimously.  On a motion by Maddox, seconded by Sewell, it was unanimous to allow the Board of Education to place one double-wide,  permanent modular unit at Lee Street School with the stipulation that a gate be added to the existing fence before the additional unit is in place.

     Mr. Maddox expressed that he would not vote for any further modular units to be place at Lee Street School and wanted this to be noted in the minutes for public record.

      Maddox moved, seconded by McDonald that the City continue with Clayton County in the Block Grant Program.  The motion carried unanimously.

     An amended Occupation Tax Ordinance was before Council for discussion and consideration.  This proposed ordinance will be available at City Hall for inspection by the public.  It will be placed on the July agenda for adoption.

      On a motion by McDonald, seconded by Sewell, Mr. Robert Gadson was granted permission for an Internet Web Design business at 267 Wayne Avenue.  The motion carried unanimously.

      Maddox moved, seconded by McDonald, that the Fire Department be allowed to be in the streets on June 22, 23, and 24th for the Burn Foundation Boot Drive.  The motion carried unanimously.  Sewell moved, seconded by Norrington, that the Department be allowed to spend $500 from their budget for training tapes.  The motion carried unanimously.  Sewell moved, seconded by McDonald, that the GMAG  Resolution be passed after inspection and approval from the City Attorney and Mayor.  The motion carried unanimously.

     Mr. Herbert Parker was present to request some street repair on Batiste Garden Circle and also voice a complaint about some unsightly conditions that exist on South Main Street.

     There being no further business, Sewell moved, seconded by Norrington that the meeting be adjourned.
