City of Jonesboro The regular meeting of Mayor and Council was held July 8, 2002 with Mayor Day and the following members present: T.E. Adair, Yvette McDonald, Wallace Norrington, Clifford Sewell, and Rick Yonce; Luther Maddox was absent. It was unanimous to add the reading of the June minutes which was inadvertently omitted from the agenda. The minutes were read and unanimously approved. Upon the absence of Lewessa Major, Sewell moved, seconded by Norrington that she be recognized at the end of the agenda of there is a late arrival. The motion carried unanimously. Mayor Day Called for the lection to be held August 20 for the question of a $60,000 homestead exemption on city Ad Valorem Tax. Having been properly advertised, a hearing was held concerning the rezoning of the property at 137 Fifth Avenue. A petition was presented to the council from residents in the area objecting to the rezoning, and Mr. Tom Hand, 137 Fifth Avenue spoke on behalf of the objecting residents. Ms.Mattie Sims related her plans for operating the personal care home that she proposed. Stephanie Sims spoke in support of her mother's endeavor. Upon completion of the hearing, Adair moved, seconded by Sewell, that the request be denied. The motion carried unanimously. There being no further business, Sewell moved, seconded by Norrington, that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried unanimously.
