City of Jonesboro The
regular meeting of Mayor and Council was held January 14, 2002 with Mayor Day
and the following members present: T.
E. Adair, Luther Maddox, Yvette McDonald, Clifford Sewell and Rick Yonce.
Prior to the beginning of the meeting, Probate Judge, Eugene Lawson
administered the Oath of Office to the newly elected council members, Yvette
McDonald, Wallace Norrington and Rick Yonce. Mayor
Day led in the Pledge to the Flag.
The minutes of the December 2001 were read and stand unanimously
approved. Upon
the recommendation of Mayor Day, McDonald moved, seconded by Norrington that the
appointment of employees be removed from the agenda.
The motion carried unanimously. Maddox
moved, seconded by McDonald, that the home occupation request of Darrell
Williams, 8050 Tara Blvd. Apt. 0-3, be granted for catalog order sales.
For the motion were Adair, Maddox, McDonald, Norrington and Yonce; Sewell
opposed. The motion carried. On
a motion by Sewell, seconded by McDonald, the request of the U.D.C. was tabled.
They were requesting that the City pay the bill for the gas lights at the
Confederate Cemetery . The motion carried unanimously.
There were several code enforcement issues discussed and Chief Harris was
asked to follow up specifically on the Thurmond property on Irvin Street along
with the property across the street. Chief
Harris requested that all code
enforcement calls be forwarded to the Police Department. There being no further business, Sewell moved, seconded by Maddox, that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried unanimously.
