City of Jonesboro The regular meeting of Mayor and Council was held April 9, 2001 with Mayor Day and all members present as follows: T.E.Adair, Luther Maddox, Yvette McDonald, Wallace Norrington, Clifford Sewell, and Rick Yonce. The minutes of the March meeting were read and unanimously approved. Ed Wise presented the City with a tornado warning siren which he had gotten from his home town of Chesapeake, Virginia and spent more than 200 hours on its refurbishing. The cost of transportation and re-furbishing supplies were covered by Pope Dickson and Son Funeral Home, and new housing for the siren was donated by Larry McLain through B.H.W. Sheet Metal Co. On a motion from Sewell, seconded by Norrington, the rezoning request of Gayla Hurst was struck from the agenda since she was not present. The motion carried unanimously. Maddox moved, seconded by McDonald, that the Overnight Parking Ordinance as attached to the minutes, be approved. The motion carried unanimously. Sewell moved, seconded by McDonald, that Miranda Lewis be permitted to operate a janitorial service from her home at 103 Woodland Drive. The motion carried unanimously. Maddox moved, seconded by McDonald, that the pay raise for the city's street and sanitation workers be tabled for more information and comparisons. The motion carried unanimously. Chief Wiggins invited the Council to attend a meeting of the Metro Fire Association to be held at the station, Tuesday, April 24th at 7:30 p.m. Police Chief Mark Harris announced a Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the Department, to be held at Lee Street Park, Saturday, April 14th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Mayor Day reported that seven lights would be added to existing poles on Arnold Street at a cost of $63.70 per month for all seven. Sewell recommended that all city vehicles have City decals for identification. Mayor Day announced a Called Meeting to be held April 16th for consultation concerning annexation. Nesbitt Shaw, 106 Pharr Avenue, came before Council concerning neighbors working on vehicles and being disturbing to him. Mayor Day requested Chief Harris to follow up on this complaint. Melissa Castellaw, 189 Dean Street, expressed to Council some of her concerns. The condition of the well house on Lee Street, and the question of it being unlocked was a concern. Another concern was the decibels of the Tornado Warning Siren. She was requesting other information and was advised by Mayor Day that she put her request in writing and submit it to the clerk's office for answers. Frank and Linda Holloway, 115 Chestnut Street, addressed Council concerning several unsightly and unhealthy conditions in their neighborhood. Mayor Day advised that there will be follow up on these concerns. There being no further business, Sewell moved, seconded by Adair that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried unanimously.
